The Documentary Ukraine – Masks of Revolution (In Swedish: Ukraina – Revolutionens mörka sida) on the massacre in Odessa May 2, 2014 will be aired in Sweden May 23, 2016. The broadcast has been postponed twice. Maidan Norway, a Swedish Human Rights organization (Östgruppen för demokrati och mänskliga rättigheter), Ukrainian organizations, the Ukrainian embassy and journalists have protested against the documentary. In 2015, Ukrainian organizations stopped an exhibition on the massacre in Odessa May 2, 2014. Sweden’s largest organization for adult education (ABF) had admitted it in their program but the exhibition was prevented. The same Ukrainian organizations together with others now seek to slander and defame a documentary which premiered February 1, 2016 on Canal+ in France and is directed by the renowned and award-winning French journalist Paul Moreira.

The documentary is based on witness statements from all sides and on facts about events that took place in Odessa May 2, 2014. Those who protest against this documentary refer to an article authored by the journalist John Færseth and published in the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet. Færseth opposes what the documentary proves. The film shows a Ukrainian-nationalistic mob setting a trade union building on fire and this leads to 42 fatalities among supporters of a referendum on federalisation of the country. The Norwegian journalist instead believes that a lot suggests that the main responsibility for the fatalities lies on the fire brigade who arrived late at the scene of the fire. Færseth also suggests that the role of right-wing extremism in Ukraine is grossly exaggerated in the entire documentary about the dark elements of the Ukrainian revolution.
Odessa-150502

The campaign against the documentary aims to provide people, who have this lack of moral and who excuse a mass murder, the possibility to ”comment” the documentary in connection to the broadcast. Their aim is to promote their so-called critical voices so that they can make the documentary appear as if it is based on conspiracy theories. Do not let a narrative that excuses right-wing extremist violence, wherever it occurs, get the final say in mass media.

Defend freedom of speech and freedom of information against any government and their followers who want to impose their views and biased narrative as the only valid truth on their own people or upon people in other countries.

We who have initiated this international action come from diverse backgrounds. As farmers we are concerned about the agriculture in Ukraine with its 7 million farmers who are protesting against the policies imposed upon them by the EU and IMF being austerity policies directed against small and middle sized farmers: policies only in the interest of the big corporations. As employees in the public sector we are concerned that the future society is put in the hands of companies that are replacing social rights with privatized social services to make profit off the needs of people. As pacifists and environmentalists we are concerned about the secretary general of NATO claiming that environmental movements with its protests against fracking were in the hands of Russia. We are also concerned about how Russia or any other country is portrayed as an enemy in Sweden with the purpose to promote rearmament and war rather than peace building. We are, as activists for human rights very concerned about the selective use of the indivisible human rights including both social and political dimensions with double standards that weaken the struggle for human rights everywhere.

The campaign against the documentary was supported by Maidan Norway, Ukrainian organizations and a Swedish Human Rights organization (Östgruppen för demokrati och mänskliga rättigheter). Others who opposed the documentary had their background in a think tank funded by Confederation of Swedish Enterprise (In Swedish: Svenskt Näringsliv), defense research, the Ukrainian embassy, Swedish public service radio and human rights organizations that share the Swedish Government’s position on the conflict in Ukraine.

”Directed by award winning investigative reporters Paul Moreira and Luc Hermann, Premieres Lignes makes provocative, thoughtful programmes that challenge viewers to reconsider what they know, lifting the veil of secrecy on events and issues that often live in shadows, and deciphering the double speak of political and corporate spin.”

  2. http://www.stopfake.org/en/fake-un-confirmed-russian-intelligence-agencies-were-behind-the-odessa-house-of-trade-unions-tragedy
Trots att sajten avslöjade SBU lögn, två år senare finns det folk som fortfarande sprider denna ”desinformation”:

”Many Ukrainian news agencies claim that UN experts in their report on the state of human rights in Ukraine confirmed that Russian intelligence agencies were behind the tragedy in Odessa on May 2. Over forty people had died and many had been wounded in street fights, shootings and the fire in the House of Trade Unions
Most of the news agencies report the following information: «Evidence found that the clashes in the city and the fire in the House of Trade Unions had been prepared by the Russian intelligence agencies. It is known that two GRU (Russian Main Intelligence Directorate) officers took part in the preparations, – reads the third report of the UN mission on the human rights situation in Ukraine.»”

    DENNA INFORMATION ÄR LÖGN.

”Here is the full version of the UN report. It contains no information concerning Russia’s Main Intelligence Directorate (MID, ГРУ, Главное разведывательное управление России, GRU).
The only part of the report, mentioning «two officers» is about two SBU officers, who were detained by the “Luhansk People’s Republic” while attempting to negotiate the release of their colleagues who were being detained.
Russian citizens and their possible contribution to the events of May 2 are mentioned only with reference to the SBU publication: «Also on 3 May, the SBU published the names and passports of three citizens from the Russian Federation allegedly involved in the 2 May violence.»
The UN experts made no conclusions about the part of the Russian intelligence agencies.”

  3. Eftersom dokumentären handlar om 2014, har kritikerna en oerhört ”selektiv minne”:

Flera artiklar från 2014 visar att flera var oroliga över fascisternas förekomst i viktiga poster i regeringen:

    1. ”It’s time for a frank conversation about some of the unsavory characters in Kiev.
The uncomfortable truth is that a sizeable portion of Kiev’s current government — and the protesters who brought it to power — are, indeed, fascists.

Today, Svoboda holds a larger chunk of its nation’s ministries (nearly a quarter, including the prized defense portfolio) than any other far-right party on the continent. Ukraine’s deputy prime minister represents Svoboda (the smaller, even more extreme ”Right Sector” coalition fills the deputy National Security Council chair), as does the prosecutor general and the deputy chair of parliament — where the party is the fourth-largest. And Svoboda’s fresh faces are scarcely different from the old: one of its freshmen members of parliament is the founder of the ”Joseph Goebbels Political Research Centre” and has hailed the Holocaust as a ”bright period” in human history.

Nowhere has this dearth of nuance been more apparent than in the Ukraine crisis. In December, shortly after protests began against Ukraine’s pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych, U.S. Senator John McCain shared a platform and an embrace with Svoboda chief Tyahnybok at a mass rally in Kiev, assuring demonstrators, ”The free world is with you; America is with you.” In February of this year, France and Germany oversaw a peace deal between Tyahnybok, two other opposition leaders, and Yanukovych (though soon after, protests forced Yanukovych to flee to Russia). And in early March, the U.S. State Department published a debunking of Putin’s ”False Claims About Ukraine,” assuring Americans that Ukraine’s far-right ”are not represented” in parliament.

In fact, it was the same French- and German-backed peace deal that gave Svoboda its disproportionate share of the resulting government’s ministries.”

    2. Artikeln i Globalresearch (som delvis grundar sig på artikeln i foreignpolicy, dock grundligare) tar upp samtliga fascister i regeringen och kuppen:

”In trying to downplay the significance and role of Svoboda and the Right Sector, the media usually point out that Svoboda has only 8 percent of the seats in the Rada and that the Right Sector doesn’t have any elected members, thus making it appear that these parties are of little consequence. The startling fact not revealed is that Svoboda has seven members within the government’s 21-member cabinet, so they compose one-third of the cabinet – all in the most key and powerful positions. Moreover, the Right Sector has a role in government as well; its leader DmytroYarosh is in charge of the police as the Deputy Secretary to the Minister of National Security.

Because the issue of the role of Svoboda in Ukraine’s government is so fundamentally important, let’s take a look at the cabinet membership.
Oleksandr Sych– Deputy Prime Minister, a Svoboda parliamentarian, the party’s chief ideologist, and a virulent anti-abortion activist
IhorTenyukh – Minister of Defence, member of Svoboda’s political council, and formerly commander of Ukraine’s navybut was dismissed from his post when he tried to help Georgia following its military attack on South Ossetia which Russia quickly rebuffed.
AndriyParubiy– Secretary of the National Security and National Defense Committee (RNBOU), co-founder of the Social-National Party of Ukraine (Svoboda). This is a key position which oversees the Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces, Law Enforcement, National Security and Intelligence. The RNBOU is central decision-making body. While it is formally headed by the president, it is run by the Secretariat with a staff of 180 people including defense, intelligence and national security experts. Parubiy was the head “kommandant” of the MaidanRight Sector forces and directed the masked armed men who battled the police.
OlehMakhnitsky – Prosecutor-general, Svoboda member of parliament. With this appointment Svoboda will control the judicial process.
IhorShvaika – Minister of Agriculture, an agro-oligarch and a member of Svoboda. As one of the richest men in the country, his massive investments in agriculture would seem to indicate a slight conflict of interest.
AndriyMoknyk – Minister of Ecology, Deputy Chairman of the Svoboda party and a member of their Political Council, and has been Svoboda’s envoy to other European fascist parties.
SerhiyKvit –Minister of Education, a leading member of Svoboda, noted for his efforts to glorify those who inspiredthe Bandera fascists in World War II.
DmytroYarosh – Deputy head of the National Security Council, to be in charge of the police. Yarosh is the founder-leader of the paramilitary “Right Sector,” and together with Parubiy they directed the demonstrations at Maiden.Years back, Yorash fought alongside Chechen Islamists, and proudly claims that he personally killed a large number of Russian soldiers.

It is usually pointed out that Victor Yanukovych was impeached by a unanimous vote of 328-0, or by 73 per cent of the deputies of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada. What is seldom revealed is that Ukraine’s constitution stipulates that it requires a 75 percent vote of the members of the Rada to legitimately impeach a president. Given this, although Yanukovych was removed from office, it was done in violation of Ukraine’s constitution, and as such this was not a legal impeachment – it was plainly and simply a coup d’état.

…/on February 22 the Right Sector armed mobs stormed the government buildings and staged a coup in the parliament. And the rest is history as they say.”

    3. Obekväma sanningar om Ukraina och de som har makten:
”The new government is a fragile coalition that includes some pretty scary elements.
When Vladimir Putin says there are far-right extremists running Ukraine, he isn’t completely wrong. But politicians from Svoboda, an ultra-nationalist party with ugly neofascist tendencies, also got important jobs, including deputy prime minister and chief of national security. Some other, smaller parties are even more extreme. Even if they tone down their rhetoric, Svoboda and its allies are strongly populist and are likely to bail out of the coalition if it inflicts economic sacrifices demanded by Western donors, says analyst Lilit Gevorgyan of IHS in London.”

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-03-20/four-uncomfortable-truths-about-ukraine

    4. Leonid Bershidsky i blomberg.com/view:
”That makes it hard to play the devil’s advocate, but experience tells me that there are no conflicts in which one side is entirely in the right. Hyperbole aside, Putin and his people have made several valid points about the situation in Ukraine.

De jure, Putin is right when he says Viktor Yanukovych is still president of Ukraine. The Ukrainian constitution describes only three ways in which a president can lose his powers: Death, resignation and a convoluted impeachment procedure that requires, at the end, the votes of three-quarters of parliament members. Yanukovych is alive, he has not resigned and the impeachment procedure was not followed. Instead, he was removed with a parliamentary resolution saying that he had ”disengaged” from power. The unconstitutional move gives Putin grounds to say Ukraine has experienced a coup d’etat.

The Russian descriptions of violence during the Ukrainian revolution are also, to an extent, true. ”Government buildings were seized and burned, police were attacked, arms warehouses were robbed and officials in the regions humiliated.”

Indeed, protesters seized government buildings throughout the nation, and I have been to some of them in Kiev. They set fire to the head office of Yanukovych’s Regions Party, killing an engineer who worked in it. In Lvov in Western Ukraine, they stormed a garrison and indeed seized control of its arms warehouses, although local media reported the stockpiles were immediately sealed. The governor of the western region of Volyn was handcuffed to the stage of a protest rally in Lutsk.
I also saw, however, people in camouflage carrying Uzis and Kalashnikovs whose paths I would not like to cross in a dark alley.

Neither side wants to work toward a face-saving compromise. As a result, Putin is now fighting a public relations war against the entire West, and Ukrainians are developing a siege mentality that undermines democratic governance and fills media with as much virulent propaganda and disinformation as Kremlin-controlled Russian TV carries.”

    http://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2014-03-04/not-all-ukrainians-are-the-good-guys

    5. Så sen som igår, ”nationalister” demonstrerade och hotade att avsätta Poroshenko och regeringen om de tillåter separatisterna att hålla val (enligt Minsk2 avtalet):

”If the Kiev authorities hold elections in the Donbass region, the activists will remove the entire Ukrainian parliament and Petro Poroshenko’s government, and will find new members of parliament, said Andrey Biletsky, the founder of the nationalist Azov battalion.”
